SocialPress User Signup Plugin

SocialPress User Signup Plugin

A few weeks ago, Frumph launched SocialPress as an informal project offering lightweight alternative plugins to BuddyPress. Alternatives are always nice.

My initial offering for SocialPress is a plugin which blends signup options by allowing only user signups, but logged in users can create blogs. The plugin is definitely lightweight and is designed to alter the behavior of the built-in signup: [download#8]. Just extract the zip and drop the plugin in the mu-plugins folder and set the site registration option to 'Enabled. Blogs and user accounts can be created.'

hey Ron, read the original article from Frumph, sounds all god, but as far as I can see, there is nothing downloadable yet, except your plugin here, right?

how exactly does your plugin work? user signs up, gets an activation mail, confirms then when creating blogs, no further activation needed?

So far, this is the only one available for download (I think). Frumph is still working on a number of them. I will have another one next week.

The built in signup choices are

    – disabled
    – enabled signups for both users and blogs
    – only users can sign up (only site admins can create blogs)
    – only logged in users can signup for blogs (only site admins can create users)

It uses the normal built in process in terms of activation and all of that *except* the only signup choice is for a user. Once a user is logged in then when they visit wp-signup they can create a blog. So, in essence it enforces the third option while allowing the fourth option.

I was really hoping something would come out of Xiando but that looks like it has died. I have an install using it.

Thanks for this Ron! I’m re-building the sign-up process for our site (we don’t use SocialPress), and this was exactly the starting point I needed to separate out the user sign-up and blog registration processes. The best ideas are the simplest!
