More news, week of Feb 20th 2009

I’m thinking I should start making this a regular weekly feature. Sheesh, you guys have been busy this week, and it’s not over yet.

First up, Phil the Frumph over at WebComicPlanet has integrated php free chat into WPMU. Cool beans, I tried it out.

And someone from the forums has been hiding their great blog from me. ;) Included is a WordPress MU Function List which will come in handy, as well as a change to the recently included admin bar to make it sitewide. See: Site-Wide Admin Bar for WPMU

Notes from trac:

Good discussion of the issue where the main blog’s page slugs override blog names on subfolder installs. Fixed here.

Sitewide plugin administration support

If you’re a fan of keeping the WWW in, or at least being provided with a choice, instead of the default action of stripping it out, please read Donncha’s comment here and chime in. Keep complaints out and offer up a real solution, please.

A couple interesting plugin finds:

If you want to use OPenID and Facebook Connect on your WPMU site you may want to check this out.

And this plugin adds a group of users, or another userlevel to a blog for greater control over post access and privacy level.

Also, this weekend is WordCampEd Vancouver, where there will be a LOT of discussion about WPMU.

Themes and networks, oh my:

Everybody’s favorite blog network powerhouse, b5media, has started condensing their blog network into WPMU installs. Some slick stuff happening here, read up on it over at the Blog Herald: The New b5 Media revealed. Best part? B5 Media is all about giving back. Expect to see them release some plugins. Like this one, a censor plugin for bbpress.

And not only were they busy, they built their first WPMU site using one of the popular Revolution themes. Brian Gardner of course gave a hand, and has dipped his own toes in the WPMU waters. You can give his themes a real test drive at his rebranded StudioPress.

Given I just wrote about 3 other theme shops that have done this already, expect more to follow because I know they will. It just makes sense at this stage of the game.

    Hi Andrea,

Love the blog! I’ve only started learning about WPMU and this is an excellent resource.

Re: live chat for WPMU, have you checked out Chatroll (http://chatroll.com) yet? I wrote an article a while back specifically about how to integrate it into WPMU.

I’d be happy to hear what you think and tell you more about it if you like. Check out the article here:
