Montyspam

Posted by Andrea under News

After a bit of a wait, macgruder from the forums has released Montyspam. It seems really easy to use and uncomplicated in the backend. Better yet, it was developed specifically for MU *first*.

If you’ve been looking for some way to manage comment spam on your system, this could be the way to go.

I have been waiting for this.

However, now I am unsure about whether I want to use it. First, Monty checks back with his creator every once in awhile for updates…….huh…I want it to work on my server…..I don’t want it talking to any other server without me….that is cheating. Second, on the site he says that this release is only good for a couple of months and then he might start charging (he uses “donation” like a threat). Third, if it is just for comment spam….then I am okay. I receive ghetto trackbacks……..but with my quality articles I would be mad if some spammer wasn’t copying my material…..at least they are linking back. Fourth, it is still in beta…..and I only have one site up- it is my baby. Lastly, I am still new at this, so I believe caution is the best way.

May I ask what the ever so knowledgeable Andrea would suggest?

Other than that, I am sure a lot of quality work went into Monty and it sounds like it can revolutionize WPMU installations.
